once upon a time
It's rather enjoyable to look back at your work and see how it has progressed. I'm thinking of my story Cassandra's Castle in particular. I've been reworking the edits, getting it into a good full novel-length manuscript. There have been some major changes since I wrote the first draft and I think it'd be kind of fun to tell you about them.
The very first story of Cassandra's Castle took place when Cassie was much younger. She loved animals. One day she came upon a nest of baby weasels when she was walking in the fields behind her house. The mother weasel was gone, so she took it upon herself to feed them. So everyday Cassie would ditch class, leave the school grounds, crawl under a fence, and go to the weasel hole with a can of cat food. Monica would take the teacher a note that Cassie wrote that was supposed to be from her mom, and give it to their teacher.
One day Monica asked Cassie to take a photo of the weasels with her cell phone so that she could see them too. So Cassie ditched class, went to the weasel hole, and when she took the photo, poof! the weasels were gone! What happened?
Well, they went to the Realm. And that's how our story began!

If you want to know why I changed the story so drastically it's because it wouldn't be fair to the viewer to think this story is completely innocent and fun. There's magic in it, and there's light hearted humor. But there is also some tragedy and because of that, I needed to make Cassie older and ready for some pretty hard lessons.
We've come a long way, but the journey's been a joy and there's still a long way to go!
