There were quite a few ups and downs this week in my writing process. I put the story to rest several days in a row. Picked up, wrote a sentence or two, and set it down again. It’s not writer’s block per se. It was a “what am I doing with this story? Where do I want to go?”
Part of the problem is that I’m making the main character very unlikable. That’s being done purposefully but I don’t want to depress the reader at the same time. So finally, after a week of not writing at all, I decided what needed to be done was to bring the most loveable character front and center more. Be uplifting, because in the end this story will be noble-bright. With that, I am able to continue.
I’m currently writing chapter 9, but I’ve only posted 4 chapters here on Substack. This is just to let you see the writing process. I’m still hesitant about serializing the story because I make so many changes while I’m writing.
For instance, I just had to switch where a chapter goes. And I’ve already gone back to what you’ve read and changed things.
I am open to discussion, though. I’d like to know if this process intrigues you, if you want to read more of my musings, or if this is just a waste of your time. (I hope not). My intent is to speak to those of you who write or want to write, or just love to see the process of a writer for amusement sake. Please let me know!
FYI word art keeps me inspired.
Did you see Lavender Lass’ campaign yet?
There are only 9 more days to pick up this limited leather edition of Thread of a Spider.
