Campy, fun, for some reason the writing and characterization remind me of The Confederacy of the Dunces…This is a fun, imaginative book. It's well written and well told. " – review from Ingram Spark

Inheriting a dilapidated mansion with a tattooed butler would throw anyone's world into a tither. Just think what it might do to an already dysfunctional vampire family! Especially one that moved from their flooded home along the Louisiana Bayou to a normalized city in Ohio!

Benjamin Peadlebody was the patriarch of the family. A pure blooded vampire whose daily life was a mystery to all but Mr. Cottlebone, his butler. When he allegedly dies during a lightning storm (which struck a tree, which crashed through the house, splintered, and drove a branch clean through the vampire's heart while he slept) the estate becomes the property of his sons, Rockford and Gerald.

Unfortunately, while Rockford flees a flood with his wife (Ginger) and son (Raymond) (and his brother) on a train on his way to claim his inheritance, his hunger draws him to the conductor and some people say he was the cause of the train wreck. Poor Rockford never left that scene, pinned down by a railroad tie driven through his (you guessed it), heart.

Now, some folks in Ohio claim Rockford was a vampire and that would be a scandal to all his cousins, so the story opens up at his funeral with whispers and photographers and a dead man's mouth sewn shut.

There's one thing you need to know about Gerald. Being the younger of the two brothers, he was also the skittish one and never took to the training that his now-deceased father (Benjamin) offered. So...he's not a very adept vampire and though his charge is his brother's wife, Ginger (really a human who was involuntarily turned) (she opts to live in the tree house around back - something about a hole in the manor's roof), and her son Raymond (who is trying to disown everyone in the family)(who opts to live far away on the other side of town- something about wanting to live a normal life), the three must learn to fend for themselves.

Enjoy chapter 1.
