When you spend years with these characters and their villains and the mistakes they make, and the triumphs they experience, and as you manipulate their lives so that they grow (or don’t grow) you become attached to them. Yes, I know, in this, writers are a little bonkers. But it’s true.
Take the Cho Nisi world, for instance. A few years ago I wrote 5 books to the series, The first 3 make up the main story arc. Then I wrote 2 more as spin-off novels. Then I’m in the process of sealing them in genuine leather and wrapping them in gold foil dust jackets. People love them. I can’t get them any more fancy then this and sadly, when they are all collectables, that’s it.
Or is it?
I honestly don’t want to quit but spin-off novels are not quite satisfying enough. How about you? What do you do?
I know some fantasy writers just keep going and I have a sneaky suspicion that’s going to happen to my world. A spin-off series. Just how much of the old world gets drawn in, I’m not sure.
One reason I don’t like starting over completely is I’ll get my worlds confused. Already I find myself wanting to slip in a character or two from Ian’s Realm into Sword of Cho Nisi. Has anyone ever done that? Integrate two series so that the characters are interacting with each other?
It’s a fun idea. Ian (from Ian’s Realm) finds himself on the island of Cho Nisi…hmm. Something to think about. How would readers react? Has anyone ever done this?
I’m accepting comments!
Anyway. Curse of Mt. Ream is getting ready for it’s leather remake and the campaign is in pre-launch. I would love followers. No commitment. It helps get the campaign ranking on Kickstarter. Thanks in advance if you give it a click!
